Volvo Penta is providing the power solution for the world’s first retrofitted electric crew transfer vessel (E-CTV). The world's first Volvo Penta IPS powered Electric Crew Transfer Vessel to be built in UK, retrofitting of the Ginny Louise, a 20-metre, diesel-powered Mercurio vessel, involves replacing of the existing propulsion system with fully electric motors and over 2 MW of onboard battery capacity.
One of just 10 projects awarded UK government funding as part of an industry-led transition this project is supported by UK government Zero Emissions Vessel and Infrastructure (ZEVI) program. As part of this crew transfer vessel project, new onshore and offshore charging infrastructure will also be installed. When the retrofit is complete the electric crew transfer vessel will be renamed the e-Ginny.
